About Fire Doors

What is the purpose of a fire door?

The purpose of a fire door is to slow down and contain a fire to a certain area of a building preventing damage to escape routes and injury to building occupants.

Can fire doors be left open?

No. Fire and smoke control doors must be keep closed at all times.

How do I know if my fire or smoke control door is certified?

Each fire door that is supplied and installed is required to have a label confirming the stability, integrity, insulation and/or smoke rating. If your fire door is missing this label, please get in contact with your door supplier.

Where are fire doors required?

Fire rated doors are required in all non-domestic premises such as hospitals, supermarkets and schools to name a few. Consulting with a fire safety professional or building inspector can provide more detailed guidance on the specific requirements for your building.
